Poll finds declining support for terrorism in many Muslim nations

Support for Osama bin Laden and for violence against civilians in the name of Islam is falling in many Muslim countries, according to a new poll released Thursday.

"Maybe in some cases it is a response to their own experiences," said Andrew Kohut, director of the Pew Research Center's Global Attitudes Project, which sponsored the study.

Pew found declining support for terrorism among Lebanese, Pakistanis, Indonesians and Moroccans, the first three of whom have experienced serious recent violence. The findings are based on face-to-face interviews conducted between April 20 and May 31, before the London mass transit attacks.

...when in fact...

The declines are good news, Kohut said. But falling support for terrorism doesn't mean increased backing for the United States. In a survey last month, Pew reported that favorable ratings of the United States increased - especially in Indonesia - following extensive U.S. aid to tsunami relief in that country. Overall, however, favorable ratings of the United States have declined in the Muslim world since the invasion of Iraq, Pew found.

TREASON: The thick plottens

The State Dept. Memo

"Oh boy. For all the spinning and leaking the Rove team has been doing, they just can't seem to get in front of this story. Every day, something new is uncovered. Today's development: the State Department's memo about Joseph Wilson and Valerie Plame (aren't you glad, that in the middle of a war, this is what the State Department was writing memos about?):"

Much more

Leakers leak leaks about leaks from leakers

Why was this memo even on Air Force One?

Investigators in the case have been trying to learn whether officials at the White House and elsewhere in the administration learned of the C.I.A. officer's identity from the memorandum. They are seeking to determine if any officials then passed the name along to journalists and if officials were truthful in testifying about whether they had read the memorandum, the people who have been briefed said, asking not to be named because the special prosecutor heading the investigation had requested that no one discuss the case.

King Goerge's newest scam to make money for his friends: Terism insurance

White House backs modified terrorism risk insurance.

The Bush administration is likely to support a modified version of the multi-billion dollar terrorism risk insurance programme enacted following the September 11 2001 terrorist attacks, as long as US insurers agree to bear more of the cost of funding it, a senior lawmaker said on Thursday.

Of course they'll bear the cost. They know there are no terists, so this will be a cash cow.

I can. Pentagonians are just as corrupt as the rest of this warmongering, fascist junta.

GAO investigator rips Pentagon on Iraq war finances

Full accounting lacking, he says

WASHINGTON -- The federal government's chief investigator yesterday blasted the Pentagon for its ''atrocious financial management," saying the Defense Department was not able to give federal oversight officials a full accounting of the $1 billion being spent each week on the war in Iraq.

''If the Department of Defense were a business, they'd be out of business," David Walker, comptroller general of the Government Accountability Office, said at a breakfast with reporters yesterday. ''They have absolutely atrocious financial management."
The GAO has been examining the Pentagon's Iraq expenses, and ''we're having extreme difficulty in getting the Department of Defense to provide a full accounting of what they're spending" there, Walker said. ''I can't understand how we're spending $1 billion a week."

One billion dollars a week. Think about where that money might have gone. Then think about where it did go.

Adoption firm: No Catholics

Catholicism "does not agree" with statement of faith, agency says

A local Christian adoption agency that receives funds from the sale of Mississippi's Choose Life specialty car tags will not consider Catholics as adoptive parents.

"It has been our understanding that Catholicism does not agree with our Statement of Faith," wrote Bethany Christian Services director Karen Stewart in a July 8 letter to Sandy and Robert Stedman, a Catholic couple in Jackson seeking to adopt. "Our practice to not accept applications from Catholics was an effort to be good stewards of an adoptive applicant's time, money and emotional energy."

A private adoption agency, Bethany Christian Services has locations in 75 U.S. cities, including Jackson, Hattiesburg and Columbus.

The agency is one of 24 adoption and pregnancy counseling centers in the state that receives money from the sale of Choose Life car tags, which advocate against abortion.

Theo-fascist carpetbaggers head to South Carolina, plan another secession

Some natives not too thrilled about upcoming invasion, probable abandonment of Constitution.

Plans to reform (our) government to more Christian-like principals are in the works and we may feel the effects, right here in the Upstate. That is because South Carolina has been chosen as the place for hundreds, even thousands of Christians to move to, in hopes of impacting the government. But people who live here have mixed opinions about the Christian Exodus.

According to Windy Sizemore of York, SC, "I don't think that any one group trying to take over is good in anything."

DeLane Breen lives in Greenville , she says, "Just the whole planned, big group, I don't know, the concept scares me a little bit and I'm not in favor of it at all."

The Group says they plan on having 2500 Christians moved to South Carolina by September 2006, and will begin several political campaigns at that time. They hope to have a major impact on State government by 2014.

Many others in the Upstate don’t agree with Brown’s enthusiasm and say they’re against the Exodus, this even includes Christians and Church Leaders and Pastors.

No one mentioned saving souls, only political power. Is that what Jesus taught?

Why aren't the theo-fascists leading this charge?

Could it be that rethuglicons never go after rethuglicons?

A coalition of religious leaders gets behind a bill seeking oversight for tobacco in U.S.

The floor was covered with 1,200 empty pairs of shoes as a religious coalition issued a plea for the House majority leader to support regulation of tobacco as a drug.

The boots, high heels and sneakers of all sorts on the gym floor of Deer Park United Methodist Church represent the 1,200 Americans who die every day from tobacco use or second-hand smoke, said Faith United Against Tobacco organizers, a coalition of leaders from 20 different religious affiliations. The number was obtained from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta.

Each shoe was tagged with a statement such as "cigarette smoke contains benzene, carbon monoxide, arsenic, hydrogen cyanide and polonium 210." Or a personal note such as "I started smoking when I was 12 and now I have trouble breathing ... Jill C., Wylie, Tx."

The target of Faith United's campaign is U.S. House Majority Leader Tom DeLay, who led the opposition to kill a bill last year that would have required tobacco to be regulated by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, said the Rev. Randy Smith, the coalition's spokesman. Smith, who pastors the Deer Park church, is also president of the Texas Conference of Churches.

Theo-fascists AWOL on enviromental poisoning of unborn

Unborn Babies Soaked in Chemicals, Survey Finds

WASHINGTON — Unborn U.S. babies are soaking in a stew of chemicals, including mercury, gasoline byproducts and pesticides, according to a report to be released Thursday.

Although the effects on the babies are not clear, the survey prompted several members of Congress to press for legislation that would strengthen controls on chemicals in the environment.

The report by the Environmental Working Group is based on tests of 10 samples of umbilical cord blood taken by the American Red Cross. They found an average of 287 contaminants in the blood, including mercury, fire retardants, pesticides and the Teflon chemical PFOA.

"These 10 newborn babies ... were born polluted," said New York Rep. Louise Slaughter, who planned to publicize the findings at a news conference Thursday.

"If ever we had proof that our nation's pollution laws aren't working, it's reading the list of industrial chemicals in the bodies of babies who have not yet lived outside the womb," Slaughter, a Democrat, said.

What has happened to police and the legal process in this country?

FRESNO, Calif. (AP) - An 11-year old girl faces felony assault charges after seeking emergency help for a boy whom she says she accidentally injured after he bullied her with water balloons.
Maribel says she was playing on the sidewalk with her 6-year-old brother and other younger children on April 29, when the boys rode by on their bikes.

They started teasing her, calling her names and hitting her with water balloons, she said, holding her 1-year-old brother in her lap in her family's modest living room, where a couch and dining table share space with a crib and a bed.

When the boys refused to leave, Maribel threw a rock at them, hitting Elijah.

The aunt of one of Maribel's playmates saw the boy's forehead was cut. She got him a towel to stop the bleeding, and called 911, the family said.

Maribel ran to the boy's house, two blocks from her own, to tell his parents she was sorry, she said.

Police responded to the call ready to tackle a hardened criminal.

Nashville "church" hosts JUST US SUNDAY II

How in the hell do these theo-fascists maintain their tax-exempt status as a church? And why aren't they holding an enlistment drive for the rethuglicon war they love so much*?

Two Rivers Rethuglicon Theo-fascist Church in Nashville, Tennessee will host Family Research Council's simulcast television program, "Just Us Sunday II - God Save the United States and this Honorable Court" Sunday, August 14. Ignore everything DeptHomeSec says

"For the vast majority of Americans, the chances of dying in a terrorist attack are close to zero. There’s a higher probability that you’ll die by falling off a ladder than getting mixed up in some terrorist plot. So why is the U.S. Department of Homeland Security constantly telling every American to be afraid? That’s a strategy that creates widespread fear without making America any safer. U.S. homeland security efforts should focus less on what is possible and more on what is probable."

King Goerge's effort to upstage '04 Democratic Convention led to London bombings

Bush admin may be responsible for botching effort to thwart London bombing

ABC News just reported that the British authorities say they have evidence that the London attacks last week were an operation planned by Al Qaeda for the last two years. This was an operation the Brits thought they caught and stopped in time, but they were wrong. The piece of the puzzle ABC missed is that this is an operation the Bush administration helped botch last year.

I.e., last year Bush botched the effort to thwart the London subway attacks.

Feith Says Pentagon Overdid WMD Rationale

The Pentagon? How about every living rethuglicon from King Goerge on down?

WASHINGTON (AP) - The top policy adviser to Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld says the Bush administration erred by building its public case for war against Saddam Hussein mainly on the claim that he possessed banned weapons.

The comment by Douglas J. Feith, in an interview with The Associated Press, is a rare admission of error about Iraq by a senior administration official. Feith, who is leaving after four years as the undersecretary of defense for policy, said he remains convinced that President Bush was correct in deciding that war against Iraq was necessary.

``I don't think there is any question that we as an administration, instead of giving proper emphasis to all major elements of the rationale for war, overemphasized the WMD aspect,'' he said, using the abbreviation for weapons of mass destruction.

Massive anti-war rally in D. C. on my birthday. Cool.

I'd been wondering for years where all the flower grandchildren had gone. Maybe they're coming back for my party.

"On Saturday, we'll do a mass -- and we think this will be a massive turnout of people -- a march and rally. We're actually thinking of not doing the same old kind of rally that usually happens at these events, but something that's much more interactive almost like a fair, a festival of resistance, an anti-war fair. Anyway, that will be on a Saturday, and already momentum is building; there's a tremendous amount of interest in this, and as I said, the timing is certainly right for it.

"On Sunday evening, we'll do an interfaith religious service, and again try and pull together a large event where all the different religious orientations will be part of the program. Also on Sunday, we will be doing trainings for a lobby day on Capitol Hill where people will be visiting their members of the House, as well as their senators on Monday -- so the training for that will be on Sunday.

"Also on Monday, there will be a non-violent civil disobedience action, so the training for that will also take place on Sunday. And we're imagining that as we get closer other activities, educational events, other protest activities will also be developed that will be part of the whole package of the weekend."

Now, about recalling those videotapes Falwell sold "proving" Clinton murdered Vince Foster...

Al-Qaeda has changed; Bush strategy also needs to shift

As the follow-up reports emerge from the strikes on the London transit system, it's not too early to begin drawing the implications for our own security efforts.

In the first place, whatever the merits of the war in Iraq, it should be clear that we still face a threat at home. Already there have been concerns that some terrorists have left Iraq to return to Europe. Moreover, Islamic anger about the U.S. actions in Iraq, as well as the continuing conflict between the Israelis and Palestinians, feeds terrorist recruiting worldwide.

But al-Qaeda has evolved since the U.S. invasion of Afghanistan in October 2001.

Relentless pressure by the CIA, Special Forces and many other national intelligence and police efforts has made the old, centralized structure of al-Qaeda unworkable.

And we need to keep up the pressure. But al-Qaeda's new threat is decentralized. Thursday's attacks in London have all the earmarks of such a "franchise" operation, locally planned and resourced with relatively modest means, emulating al-Qaeda without the vulnerabilities of centralized resourcing and direction.

Preventing attacks probably can't be accomplished by the administration's preference for taking out "state sponsors." And it's going to be very difficult to employ military means. National intelligence efforts, special police activities and local community policing efforts, which focus on identifying and targeting terrorist individuals and organizations, are required.

King Goerge has another criminal friend to pardon

WorldCom's Ebbers Gets 25 Years in Prison

NEW YORK (AP) - Bernard Ebbers, who as the once-swaggering CEO of WorldCom oversaw the largest corporate fraud in U.S. history, wept in court Wednesday after a judge sentenced him to 25 years in prison - the toughest sentence yet in the string of recent corporate scandals.

Whenever a fascist defends Rove by attacking patriots, say this

Instant Spin Stabilizer.

Now that the entire Republican party has settled upon their spin to try and simultaneously smear Joe Wilson and defend Rove, there is one short sentence that is guaranteed to stop the spin, dead in its tracks.

"This is a criminal investigation, undertaken by the Bush Justice Department, independent of Congressional Democrats, MoveOn, and Howard Dean.

"There you have it. Use as needed, glad to help."

(And if anyone says this is a "partisan" political smear campaign, say, "Yep. We learned how by watching what your side did to Clinton for eight straight years. Except with your boys, we don't have to make stuff up.")

What's at the heart of Rovegate? King Goerge's lies about WMDs.

"As to the question of whether what Karl Rove did was a smear campaign, or politically sleazy, it’s pretty clear to me that everyone in (the) White House — from the president, to the vice president, to other officials — shared Rove’s interest in discrediting former Ambassador Joseph Wilson, who was critical of the administration’s case for going to war in Iraq."

(Wilson is the one who said Saddam had, indeed, NOT tried to buy uranium from Niger, a statement which turned out to be true, unlike King Goerge's claim to the contrary.)

Forbidden documentary now downloadable; claims terism is a fraud

This film explores the origins in the 1940s and 50s of Islamic Fundamentalism in the Middle East, and Neoconservatism in America, parallels between these movements, and their effect on the world today.

From the introduction to Part 1:

"Both [the Islamists and Neoconservatives] were idealists who were born out of the failure of the liberal dream to build a better world. And both had a very similar explanation for what caused that failure. These two groups have changed the world, but not in the way that either intended. Together, they created today’s nightmare vision of a secret, organized evil that threatens the world. A fantasy that politicians then found restored their power and authority in a disillusioned age. And those with the darkest fears became the most powerful. " The Power of Nightmares, Baby It's Cold Outside.

Having accomplished nothing beyond wasting money, DeptHomeSec gets facelift

Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff will announce a major restructuring of his 180,000-employee department today, changing how the two-year-old agency handles intelligence, sets policy and manages key law enforcement operations in response to criticism that domestic security remains unfocused and poorly coordinated.

Army stretched too thin by fighting simultaneous wars, study says

WASHINGTON - (KRT) - Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld has consistently rejected any contention that the Army is stretched too thin in fighting simultaneous wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. But a new Army study has concluded the service is so strained that the United States will soon "need to decide what military capabilities the Army should have and what risks may be prudent to assume."

Yet, even as Dunn fought to overcome his traumatic brain injury and other wounds, his mother, Cynthia Lefever, fought the Army to ensure her son continued to receive critical care from Army specialists. Lefever said the Army tried to pressure her son into accepting a discharge before he was ready - pressure other severely wounded soldiers say they've experienced, too.

Theo-fascist chaplains dominate Air Force

It was the opening ceremony of a four-day Spiritual Fitness Conference at a Hilton hotel here last month organized and paid for by the Air Force for many of its United States-based chaplains and their families, at a cost of $300,000. The chaplains, who pledge when they enter the military to minister to everyone, Methodist, Mormon or Muslim, attended workshops on "The Purpose Driven Life," the best seller by the megachurch pastor Rick Warren, and on how to improve their worship services. In the hotel hallways, vendors from Focus on the Family and other evangelical organizations promoted materials for the chaplains to use in their work.

"Black Jack" Pershing was--briefly--the hero of the CA NG

Racist poster heralds bogus story about racist general.

Background: Pershing was nicknamed "Black Jack" for commanding black troops ("buffalo soldiers") before and during the Span-Am War. Pershing hated the nickname, but it stuck nevertheless. He also hated the command, expressing more than once that it was demeaning for him, a white officer, to lead an all-black unit.

Now, the poster lauds him for "taking care of" the Muslim problem in the Philippines during the early 20th century, ignoring that this was yet another war on conquest in a land of little, brown people. It claims he used bullets soaked in pig's blood on Muslim "terrorists," and buried their bodies in pig offal, the result of which was a total absence of "terrorism" for 42 years. This almost certainly never happened. It is most likely a legend stolen from the British army whose generals actually did do those things in Afghanistan. And we see how popular westerners still are in that place, don't we?

Lastly, the poster asks where the next "Black Jack" Pershing will come from. Do we really want another one?

In pursuit of the officials who revealed a CIA officer's identity to reporters, special counsel Patrick Fitzgerald has gone to the highest reaches of the White House, interviewing President Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney and their closest aides, including deputy White House chief of staff Karl Rove.

Pentagon confirms Iran-Contra figure in senior job

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Robert Earl, who destroyed national security documents during the 1980s Iran-Contra scandal, is working as chief of staff to acting Deputy Defense Secretary Gordon England, the Pentagon said on Monday.

Earl destroyed and stole national security documents while working for Lt. Col. Oliver North during a secret arms deal with Iran in which the United States passed money from those weapons sales to Contra guerrillas in Nicaragua, according to a report to Congress by independent counsel Lawrence Walsh.

Pentagon spokesman Bryan Whitman confirmed Earl was a senior England aide, a fact first reported in the Los Angeles Times on Sunday. He added, "I wonder why it's an issue now."

"It was a long time ago," Whitman said. "He has served ably for many years in the department and in industry."

Earl was granted immunity for his testimony in the Iran-Contra scandal and was never prosecuted.

Again, why aren't they hitting us?

And don't gimme that crap about how King Goerge scared 'em all away.

Explosives used by terists in London and Tel Aviv identical

Israeli police have revealed that the explosives used in the multi-pronged terrorist attack in London last week were materially identical to the explosives used by two British Muslim suicide bombers who struck in Tel Aviv more than a year ago.

It is unknown at this time if the apparent explosives link points to an Israel-based connection, or if it points to a common source of material outside both the UK and Israel.

Leonard Clark: Anti-war GI, Dumsfeld's political prisoner

Antiwar Soldier Arrested in Iraq

Leonard Clark, who is currently serving as a member of the 860th MP Company of the Arizona National Guard patrolling the streets of Baghdad, has been arrested. Clark is a vocal opponent of the Iraq war, and this is clearly retaliation for expressing his views. Here's the text of an e-mail from one of his fellow soldiers:

King Goerge admits to allowing terist sleeper cells into America

Well, possible sleeper remain afraid, just to be sure.

WASHINGTON — The head of the Department of Homeland Security indicated Sunday that U.S. agencies were investigating possible "sleeper" cells in the country, a concern heightened by Thursday's attacks in London.

Asked whether there were Al Qaeda cells in the United States, Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff pointed to groups in Portland, Ore., northern Virginia and elsewhere convicted on terrorism-related charges.

Cut gubmnt spending, just not in states with rethuglicon governors

Governor concedes he might not need Warthog tank-busters anymore

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Pennsylvania's governor and two U.S. senators sued the Pentagon on Monday to prevent deactivation of a Pennsylvania Air National Guard unit in a bid to save a military base from closure.

In what is being viewed as the first lawsuit of its kind, Gov. Ed Rendell, joined by Pennsylvania's Republican Sens. Arlen Specter and Rick Santorum, is invoking the "militia clause" of the U.S. Constitution to prevent de-activation of the national guard's 111th Fighter Wing at the Willow Grove Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base.

Why did Hillary insult Alfred E. Neuman?

ALBANY, N.Y. — Republicans took aim at Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (search) on Monday for comparing President Bush to Mad magazine's freckle-faced, "What, me worry?" kid, Alfred E. Neuman.

A Republican National Committee (search) official said the former first lady was "part of today's angry and adrift Democrat Party," while a spokesman for one of her potential 2006 Senate rivals said she was guilty of "insulting the president."

Angry? Absolutely. Adrift? Not hardly. And they know it.

Sometimes I understand why the world hates us

Just as all Americans aren't warmongering rethuglicons, all us southerners aren't dumbass rednecks.

Well over 5000 attend Dumbass Redneck Games, no more than 30 visit Army recruiting booth

EAST DUBLIN - Southern culture was very much on display Saturday at the annual Redneck Games in East Dublin's Buckeye Park.
In addition to the games' trademark events such as the hubcap hurl, pigs-feet bobbing and mudpit belly flop, Southern hospitality came to the fore when a torrential downpour hit at midafternoon.

"It started out well, and now see what happened," Estes said, while making sure the fan didn't get wet. "I like to come because it's fun, and it's a good time to get the family together."
The festive atmosphere and good-natured fun of the Redneck Games are something that should appeal to families, she said.
"I like it a lot because you can bring the children," she said. "They (local police) don't let bad stuff happen."

Dean leads record fundraising

From the party's press office: "The Democratic National Committee (DNC)'s fundraising for 2005 is off to a strong start. During the first half of the year (January 1 - June 30, 2005), the DNC received $28.5 million in contributions, a record amount of money for an off-year election cycle. Since becoming chairman in mid-February, Gov. Howard Dean has brought the passion of the grassroots with him to the DNC by raising over $1 million a week from approximately 600,000 donations - a record amount of money for an off-year election cycle."

It's Zell Miller's turn to go to a detainee

Regardless what he spons, he stole $80,000

(Scroll down to second story)

When this nationally famous figure left the governor's office in 1999, he pocketed more than $60,000 in taxpayer funds earmarked for entertainment and other expenses at the Governor's Mansion, WSB-TV investigative reporter Dale Cardwell revealed last week.
Miller also picked up a check for more than $20,000 for "unused leave"-a sum to which he was not entitled as a constitutional officer, Cardwell also reported.

Why should theo-fascist chickenhawks go to Iraq when there's a perfectly good civil war going on here?

This is EXACTLY why the founders put the establishment clause in the frackin' FIRST AMENDMENT

A traffic stop in Greer, S.C., this month is turning into a holy war of sorts, as a practicing Druid couple claim they were targeted by a Christian police officer who tried to convert them away from their pagan belief.

Debra and Tony Gainey say they were pulled over because they had a bumper sticker reading "It's A Druid Thing."
According to Mrs. Gainey, the officer sent a card and letter to her home address days later.

"In this letter, he promises our problems will continue unless we listen to the words of the Baptists," she told the station. "We're feeling like those are threats."

Bill of Rights

Amendment I

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.

Government--all government--must be secular. Not atheist, secular. Church and government are to be separate. Nothing in our history is clearer.

EVILDOERS GONE WILD: Terists attack christianity and liberty itself

Some terists really do hate us for our freedoms.

MIDDLEBROOK, Va. - A small fire and anti-gay graffiti were found Saturday at a church belonging to the United Church of Christ, a denomination that endorsed same-sex marriage last week.
The exterior of St. John's Reformed United Church of Christ also included a message that United Church of Christ members were sinners.

History lesson: Kristallnacht

On the nights of November 9 and 10, gangs of Nazi youth roamed through Jewish neighborhoods breaking windows of Jewish businesses and homes, burning synagogues and looting. In all 101 synagogues were destroyed and almost 7,500 Jewish businesses were destroyed. 26,000 Jews were arrested and sent to concentration camps, Jews were physically attacked and beaten and 91 died.

Are you getting ready yet? They will come for you. They already are coming for you.

Here come the brownshirted patriotism police...again

From top White House operative Karl Rove to two of the party campaign committees, Republicans have launched a full-scale attack on, questioning the liberal group’s patriotism and worldview, Roll Call reports in Monday editions. An example of this campaign can be found at the Drudge Report, which claimed Sunday evening to have obtained "exclusive" details about a MoveOn event instructing members not to wear 'Bush Liar' t-shirts.

Despite having King Goerge's hand up his butt, Blair accidentally tells the truth for once

Mr Blair said at the weekend that "all the surveillance in the world" would not stop terrorists determined to attack Britain.

But King Goerge will say that doesn't apply to us. They had surveillance and still got hit. We don't have much surveillance, and we haven't been hit again since 9/11. Hmmm...It scares me that I'm beginning to understand that kind of parallel universe logic.
