Real lessons of watergate

As the Washington Post again basks in the faded glory of its Watergate coverage, many of the scandal’s crucial lessons remain obscure even to people close to the iconic events of 33 years ago. Ironically, that’s especially true for those on the winning side.
Indeed, it could be said that today’s U.S. political imbalance – tilting so much in favor of Republicans over Democrats – derived from the simple fact that conservatives learned the real lessons of Watergate while the liberals didn’t.

Make sure your child is Left Behind...

...by recruiters

How to (help) stop the war: Opt Your Kid Out

Hidden in the "Leave No Child Behind" Act is a demand for public high schools to give contact information for its students to military recruiters.

Gee, why would recruiters want that information?
Maybe so they can call kids turning 18 and suggest they'd do well to "be all you can be."

What happens if a school refuses to hand over those phone numbers?
It could lose federal funds -- and, in effect, leave all its students behind.

But there is a tiny exception.

Parents can opt their kids out.

A "pro-lifer's" critique of King Goerge

Long, but powerful and informative. Read it all.

Look at all those other traitors

Growing Problem for Military Recruiters: Parents

Two years into the war in Iraq, as the Army and Marines struggle to refill their ranks, parents have become boulders of opposition that recruiters cannot move.

Mothers and fathers around the country said they were terrified that their children would have to be killed - or kill - in a war that many see as unnecessary and without end.

Around the dinner table, many parents said, they are discouraging their children from serving.

1669 dead in Iraq

And more than once this week I was called a traitor for saying since Army and Marine recruiting numbers are 'way down, those who voted for King Goerge and his war should go fight in it. That's giving aid and comfort to an enemy? I thought I was encouraging young people to serve their king and country. Well, their king and his business partners, at least.

When compassionate cancervative chrixtains attack!

You won't believe this guy whom, by the way, Spawn Insannity endorsed for a (thankfully failed) run for Congress in 1999.

Mark Felt (a jew) helped Carl Bernstein (another jew) bring down a popular, corrupt president who was one day away from indictment before being pre-pardoned by his president-of-vice as he slithered out of town in the nick of time. (Paraphrased)

"I urge every white american to deliberately discriminate against blacks. If we all do it, the legal system will simply be overwhelmed and will collapse; thus unable to prosecute any of us."
"Boy would I like to get my hands on a strain of that bacteria. I know exactly how I would use it! Hello, Democratic National Committee? Yes. I'd like to stop by your headquarters to make a donation. . . . . ."

"FOUR CROSSES LIT IN DURHAM, NC

Within one hour, four crosses, each 7 feet tall by 4 feet wide, wrapped in burlap and doused with kerosene, illuminated in 3 separate areas of Durham, NC

Bright yellow leaflets from the Ku Klux Klan also widely distributed. This is TERRIFIC! This should be done over and over again in every city, town and village in America."

And then he rails on others for their hatespeech.

O'Dell made good on that commitment. O'Dell owns and operates Diebold, the company that makes touch-screen voting machines -- the ones without a paper trail, the ones that have proven to be susceptible to hacking and fraud, the ones that will eventually be installed in every American voting precinct to assure that all election results will be open to debate and that in the future you will hear variations on the following: "Oh, so sorry, your candidate lost to the Republican again ... and it was so close. There is no serious evidence that agents have been hamstrung by the lack of such wide authority.

America, a symbol of...?

This Memorial Day is not a good one for the country that was once the world's most brilliant beacon of freedom and justice.

State Department officials know better than anyone that the image of the United States has deteriorated around the world. The U.S. is now widely viewed as a brutal, bullying nation that countenances torture and operates hideous prison camps at Guantánamo Bay, Cuba, and in other parts of the world - camps where inmates have been horribly abused, gruesomely humiliated and even killed.

More

The real casualty

"LET'S CLEAR AWAY the propaganda and concentrate on the meaning of Memorial Day. Since the Civil War, it has been a day to remember those who died in action. They are the heroes we celebrate this day, and more than 1,800 have joined the memorial rolls since the outbreak of war in Afghanistan and Iraq. A nation mourns their loss and honors their memory.

"They died for America and Americans. That they were ill-served and exploited by the government that sent them into action has nothing to do with their sacrifice.

"Except this - a government that was either smarter or more honest would not have squandered so many lives. The war in Iraq could have been avoided.

"Lies have marked these wars from the beginning, and besides being ultimately self-defeating, they are an affront to all Americans, most especially those whose bravery and sacrifice have gone unheralded.

"If the Bush administration truly wanted to memorialize the war dead, it wouldn't spirit them into Dover Air Force Base under cover of a photo blackout - as if the White House were ashamed of those who died abroad. If the president truly wished to honor their memory, he would demonstrate to the nation that the government that has botched so much of the war at least has some inkling as to how to draw it to a successful conclusion - so that the dead will not have died in vain."

Honor those who died for King Goerge's lies

Memorial Day is not "Thank God for King Goerge, His War and Theo-Fascism Day." It's a day to remember those who died in service to our country, not PNAC. Nothing else. Period.

No national holiday is meant to support a war. Memorial Day is to remember those who died in wars. July 4 is to remember the creation of our country. Labor Day is a day off work. Veterans Day is to remember living veterans.

None of these is what the theo-fascists will try to turn them into. None of these is about "support the troops." None of these is about "a chrixtain nation." And none of these is about an unelected president (sic), his efforts to turn our country into a feudal theocracy, and conquer the world for the oil giants.

Saddam didn't and couldn't attack or even threaten us. King Goerge lied and GIs died. We remember their waste as well as their willingness, however poorly used, to serve their country. If only our military forces were still used to serve this country instead of the rethuglicon party.

Remember the 1657 GIs who have died not protecting their country, but empowering an unelected president, and enriching his criminal and theo-fascist friends.

Rogers was not trusted by George Washington and fought for England against the colonials in the Revolutionary War. And gets a statue unveiled on Memorial Day.

What's the difference between these people and republican chickenhawks?

King Goerge and his bitch, Blair, upped bombing to goad Saddam into war

How did Blair become King Goerge's bitch, anyway?

THE RAF and US aircraft doubled the rate at which they were dropping bombs on Iraq in 2002 in an attempt to provoke Saddam Hussein into giving the allies an excuse for war, new evidence has shown.

The attacks were intensified from May, six months before the United Nations resolution that Tony Blair and Lord Goldsmith, the attorney-general, argued gave the coalition the legal basis for war. By the end of August the raids had become a full air offensive.

Come 2008, we might find out just how many theo-fascist voters there really are

Chrixtain Wrong pretty much declares war on judges, Democrats, McCain and anyone else who refuses to be Dobson's bitch. In three years, we could find out how much clout they actually have beyond top punks DeLay and First. If there are many more "moderates" like McCain who don't fellate the theo-fascists, we might see the Dobsonians, Falwellians, Robertsonians et al form a third party. And that would be truly great for America.

Fantasy Talking Point: I wish it was common practice for reporters to require each theo-fascist chrixtain to give his witness in full detail. I want to know at what age, why and where they accepted Jesus Christ as their personal savior, starting with Delay, then First, Coultergeist and Hannity. I want to know their church attendance records. I want to see their 10% tithe (of pre-tax income) plus offering records from their home churches. I want to hear stories of Vacation Bible School, and how many "Sword Drill" scripture-finding contests they won. I want the names of all the people they've personally taken to church. I want stories of committee work in home churches. I want to hear scripture quoted off the cuff, not in speeches.

In short, I want them to prove they are what they claim to be. In fact, all this should be legally required when running for office as part of the background check and full disclosure of financial records.

The Bush twins should enlist

And if they did, would they desert like daddy drunk did?

Meet the GOP

It's clear why psychologists say cancervatism is a mental disorder...as if we didn't already know that. The party is made up of liars, pedophiles, animal-lovers, rapists, criminals, adulterers and fascists who would turn our country into a feudal theocracy.

Do pass this along to everyone you know.

Notice there's never a shortage of stories about rethuglicon slime?
